Isinliví

Isinliví is a rural town in the Sigchos canton (since 1992) of the Cotopaxi province. The town was established as San Juan Bautista of Isinliví in 1852.

Isinlivi comes from the Quechua (native language) words Pugsi-Illivi, which translate as hills and rivers, referring to the peaks of the western mountain range, such as Guingopana, Milin, Nuñurco, Nahuira, and Tondoa, among others, and the rivers Toachi, Cunvijin, Chasupe, and other nature waterways.

Where is Isinliví?

Isinliví is located in the central region of the Ecuadorian highlands, on the western side of the Andes mountain range. Isinliví is 88.2 kilometers from Latacunga (via Sigchos) and 11.3 kilometers (as the crow flies) from the Quilotoa Volcano and Lagoon.


How to get to Isinliví?

You can visit Isinliví by private car, taking the Panamericana Sur E35 to the Piedra Colorada overpass, heading towards the Guayatacama-Toacazo-Sigchos road, or via the detour that leads to the Lasso-Tanicuchi-Sigchos road. You can also get there by public transport from the Latacunga Bus Terminal to Isinlivi (there are only two buses a day) or by bus to Sigchos and from there by bus or taxi-truck to Isinliví.

The Ñahuira hill, at 3.100 m.a.s.l and only 3 km from the Isinlivi central park offers a friendly hiking trail to a natural viewpoint overlooking Isinlivi and the Andes.

TILINTE LAGOON

Tilinte Lagoon is located in the community of "El Salado" and originates from natural springs in the Andean moorland and the Guingopana mountain range.

GUINGOPANA HILL (Wingopana)

Guingopana is a 4.003 m.a.s.l hill surrounded by enormous rocks embedded in the surface, offering a unique view of the Iliniza and Cotopaxi volcanoes.
