Quilotoa Volcano

Quilotoa is a volcano in the Andes Mountains.

The Quilotoa volcano is located on the westernmost side of the Andes mountain of Ecuador, in South America.

Quilotoa is one of the giants of the Avenue of the Volcanoes, which fascinates with the impressive natural lake in its crater, known as the «Quilotoa Lagoon».

The Quilotoa Volcano & Laguna is a protected area of the Los Ilinizas Ecological Reserve (REI).

The Ilinizas Ecological Reserve has the distinction of being a protected area divided into four sections.

The largest is to the west, where the canyon and the slopes of the Toachi River originate. To the northeast is the area of the Corazon volcano and Iliniza volcano. To the southwest, a vast territory composed of forests and Andean páramos. Finally, the 800-hectare section that surrounds the entire perimeter of the Quilotoa volcano.

Quilotoa Lagoon

The Quilotoa Lagoon is one of the most incredible volcanic lagoons in the world and one of the most visited adventure destinations in the Ecuadorian Andes.

The attractive blue and turquoise color of the waters of this volcanic lagoon is due to its composition of carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and other minerals that are most intensely reflected in the sunlight.

The Quilotoa Lagoon covers an area of 307 hectares at an altitude of approximately 3,493 meters on the shore of the Quilotoa Lagoon, which, curiously, is composed of mineralized water. Kayaking and boat tours are available at Quilotoa Green Lake.
