Protect the Quilotoa Volcano

Respect the Established Trails

Enjoy Quilotoa adeventure without damaging its environment. Respect trails and points of interest, such as natural viewpoints and community areas, which are already organized to offer recreation with minimal impact on Quilotoa's ecology.

Do not start fires or bonfire

Don't start fires or bonfires anywhere in Quilotoa. A barbecue or a bonfire with friends is great, but doing so in Quilotoa's environmental conditions is a high risk and cause irreparable harm. It means legal issues too (included go to jail).

Sanitary Services & Waste/Trash

Explore the nature doesn't mean you have the freedom to do your business anywhere. Biological waste can disrupt ecosystems due to bacteria, viruses and pathogens.

Before go for any activity, please responsibly use the restrooms located in community areas, restaurants and hotels located around the Quilotoa and Iliniza Reserve.

Don't leave trash or waste—even organic waste—anywhere in Quilotoa. Bring bags or containers to store your waste and take it back with you.

Do not bring animals or pets

We understand that our pets and support animals are like family, receiving the same respect, affection, and care. The trip to Quilotoa is long and the area is wild, which undoubtedly also represent risks and stress to them. Avoid exposing them to accidents or unknown circumstances that could affect their health.

Remember that pets or any animals are not allowed in the Quilotoa Lagoon and Ilinizas Ecological Reserve under any circumstances.

Hunting & Extraction wildlife is prohibited

Violating hunting restrictions or extracting native natural resources can lead to serious ecological and legal problems. The survival of all species increases with minimal manipulation of the reserve's spaces and resources.

No Smoking or Alcoholic Beverages

Bringing in and consuming these types of substances puts your life and the lives of other visitors at risk. Being in a natural environment like Quilotoa under the influence of alcohol or drugs exposes you to accidents and criminal penalties.
